By Land / Sea

If you are not flying to Tioman, you have to get to Mersing, a small coastal town in the state of Johor, and from there take a boat to Tekek village, Tioman.You can get to Mersing from most points of the compass by bus.

From KL, take a bus from Puduraya bus station; from Johor Bahru - Larkin Bus Terminal; and if you are on the east coast, you can get a bus from most of the main towns (Kuantan, Terenggannu, Kota Baru) to Mersing.

On the KL-Mersing route, buses are operated by Transnasional. From KL (tel: 03 20311430) they leave Puduraya bus station three times per day, at 11.00 am, 10.30 pm and 11.00 pm. Travel time is approx. 6 hours.

From Mersing (tel: 07 7993155) there are four services, at 11.30 am, 12.30 pm, 6.30 pm and 10.00 pm. Travel time and fare are the same as the KL-Mersing journey.

** Ferries do not depart on a regular basis, but are dependent on tide levels. Sometimes you wil be transferred by a smaller boat to the waiting ferry, just outside the harbour.Departure times also vary, and even though you might be given a certain departure time it is common for the boats to wait in the harbour for 30 minutes or more to get as many passengers as possible.

Before leaving Mersing you will be asked to pay the RM 5 Marine Park Conservation fee.

Malapascua

Malapascua Island is just off the north tip of Cebu. About 2km by 0.5km, you can walk around it in 1-2 hours. It has a population of around 4000, most of whom live off tourism, fishing, boat building or coconuts.

The name Malapascua means 'Bad Christmas' in Cebuano. Legend has it that it was so named because the Spanish first landed here one stormy Christmas Day in the 1500's. There is some debate about the name however because although 'mal' definitely means 'bad', 'pasco' means Christmas in the local language of Cebuano but "pascua" in Spanish means Easter. So perhaps it was a stormy Easter after all.

Today, Malapascua is a beautiful, sleepy island, as yet unspoiled by tourism with white sandy beaches, lush green palm trees and surrounded by clear blue waters.

There are no cars on the island and most buildings are only one floor high. The locals are friendly and like to say hello and chat. They may even invite you to their homes for dinner, or at least to sit down, join them singing songs and playing guitar, and toast each other with a rum and coke.

The Tubbataha atolls lie 182 km southeast of Puerto Princessa and are part of a larger group of tiny islands that stretch from the northeast to the southwest, compromising Cagayancillo, Caluse, Cavili, Arena, then the Tubbataha reefs, Bastera (Maeander Reef), Bancoran, San Miguel islands and Cagayan close to Borneo.

The reef is made up of two coral atolls divided by an eight-kilometer wide channel. The South Atoll, the smaller of the two and the North Atoll, the larger. The atolls are separated by a deep channel 8 km wide.

The best time to dive is year around, although you can also still get rain at any time of the year. The months of May - October is the best weather throughout the year. Most of the dive sites are suitable for both beginners and advanced divers

The Dive Center is operated professionally with all new dive gears. Reliable and experienced Dive Masters will happily show you (the secret of of their home reefs) the underwater world of the Sulawesi Sea with its great diversity of marine life. Water temperature are generally cool. We suggest a 5mm - 3mm with hood. Excellent visibility from 20up to 40meters
